Alderwood claimed glorious victory in the Grade 2 Rathbarry & Glenview Studs Novice Hurdle at Fairyhouse
Fairyhouse was a venue of excitebment on 9th April, 2012, as Alderwood shone and landed a terrific victory in the Grade 2 Rathbarry & Glenview Studs Novice Hurdle.
The son of Alderbrook, out of mare, Clamit Falls, cleared the hurdles with ease and landed a prestigious victory for his trainer Thomas Mullins and his owner John P. McManus.
Mounted by champion jockey, Tony McCoy, the eight-year-old gelding excelled on the track as he defeated, Allure Of Illusion, by a margin of 3 ¼ lengths. The W.P Mullins trained six-year-old gelding tried his best, but could not keep up with the winner.
Thomas Mullins was pleased with the performance of his runner as he stated to the press that:
"Tony gave him a great ride but I still think his best run was at Cheltenham. Just looking at it, I think he's had a harder race today than he did at Cheltenham. He was blowing a lot afterwards so I'm not so sure about Punchestown."
Under jockey, P. Townend, Allure Of Illusion still secured a solid finish. This performance showed remarkable progression from his sixth place finish in the Grade 1 William Hill Supreme Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham on 13th March,
2012.
Ridden by jockey, Barry Geraghty, Jacksonslady secured a finish in third place. She showed motivation on the track, and tried to maintain her composure ,but still fell 2 ½ lengths short of the finish as a runner-up.
Steps To Freedom, trained by Mrs. John Harrington for Mrs. Sean Hussey, looked as if he could take the race in the beginning. The bookmakers watched him closely as he was riding with the favourite tag with the odds of 9 to 4, but did not pose a major
threat on the track.
The other competitors swept past him, leaving the six-year-old gelding to finish fifth, a head behind Abou Ben, who finished fourth.
This has been a lucky week for John P. McManus and A. P. McCoy as their runner, Jenari, triumphed in the Grade 2 Coolmore N.H Sires Ask & Getaway Novice Hurdle on 8th April, 2012.
Simon Gray, trained by D. T Hughes, for McManus also triumphed on the same day in the Fairyhouse Vets Promoting Equine Health Maiden Hurdle.
