Aldwickbury Park helps in funding the Great Ormond Street Hospital
This year, the Ladies Open at the Aldwickbury Park Golf Club was an effort for a noble cause. The proceeds from the tournament will go to the funding of Great Ormond Street Hospital, a respected local charity.
Talking about the event, the manager of the Aldwickbury Park Golf Club, Andrew Shewbridge said, “Great Ormond Street Hospital is an outstanding charity and I'd like to thank everybody who attended for their generosity”.
“I'd also like to thank the Aldwickbury Park Ladies for organising the event, and congratulate the winners. I look forward seeing them return to defend their crown next year”.
The hundred or so players who played in the tournament belonged to the Hertfordshire and surrounding counties. The players got to play in a world class 18-hole course. The course was designed by the well known golf personality, Ken Brown.
Brown is a pro golfer who understands golf and the golf courses better than many people do. His experience of the Ryder Cup is his best introduction. Recently, he appeared on the BBC as a commentator.
The third position went to Ellesborough Golf Club. This team was made up of Joyce Brown and Marie Ainley. These two positions have made the Ellesborough Golf Club a formidable opponent in club invitational.
The second place went to Mentmore Golf and Country Club. Barbara Brown and Ailish Berry represented their team. They put up a great fight but lost out by a three-point deficit that could only be attributed to bad luck.
The first place went to the two-some representing the Ellesborough Golf Club. The duo comprising of Judy Hannaford and Annabel Ridler scored 45 Stableford points. They won by a clear margin of three points.
Because of the nature of the event, the ladies were very enthusiastic about playing golf. The cause is near to everyone’s heart and there was no need to push the charity aspect too hard.
The ladies fully complied with the management’s request and put up a great game of golf. The end result of the event was a sum of 960 pounds for the Great Ormond Street Hospital.
