Alec Cohen captures Men’s 200m IM title: Day One - 2011 USA Swimming Sectionals
Alec W Cohen of Rays captured the title of the Men’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on the opening day of the 2011 USA Swimming Sectionals, held in Athens, on Thursday, July 14.
The 18-year-old Cohen won the title of the event in an impressive time of 2 minutes and 04.25 seconds. He was followed by Bill M Cregar of ABSC, who stayed 0.74 seconds behind him and reached the podium for the silver medal, by posting a time of 2 minutes
and 28.54 seconds. The 22-year-old Smith edged out his closest competitor, Gunnar G Bentz of DYNA, who remained nearly two seconds behind Cregar and stepped on the podium for the bronze medal, touching the wall in a third fastest time of 2 minutes and 06.05
seconds.
The battle was not limited among the podium finishers, as Wil W Singley and Scott J Gunter engaged each other in a ferocious swim to secure the fourth fastest spot. Singley of NCAC comfortably out-touched Gunter and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 07.28
seconds for the fourth best spot. The 22-year-old Gunter of CARD was 0.62 seconds behind him and posted a time of 2 minutes and 07.90 seconds for the fifth position.
Gunter was prominently away from his subsequent swimmer, Jordan M Berry of Unat Mac, who was almost one second slower than Gunter and posted a time of 2 minutes and 08.47 seconds on the board to earn sixth position. In the meantime, Alex R Burtch of CARD
occupied the seventh fastest spot of the race, as he completed his swim in a time of 2 minutes and 08.70 seconds.
The last spot of the four-lap swim was secured by Jack B Lane of DYNA, who was 2.96 seconds slower than the seventh finisher, as he completed his race in a time of 2 minutes and 11.66 seconds.
The session ended after the completion of all swimming events in the Men’s and Women’s category, while the podium finishers received medals for their immaculate swims in their respective events.
