Alec Page wins Men’s 400m IM gold medal: Day one - Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Trials
Alec Page of IS won gold medal of the Men’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on day one of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Trials in Montreal on Tuesday, March 27.
Page demonstrated his nerve-wrecking pace in the distant IM event, where he sustained his fastest qualification spot into the final round and confirmed his place to the 2012 London Olympic Games by submitting a time of 4 minutes and 17.78 seconds.
His impeccable performance remained almost six seconds ahead of Andrew Ford of GMAC, who followed him on the victory stand for silver medal by hitting the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 23.22 seconds.
Steven Bielby of PCSC missed out his berth to London Games by a margin of just 0.44 seconds as he stayed just two strokes behind Ford and settled on the medal rostrum for bronze medal by reporting an effort of 4 minutes and 23.66 seconds.
Bielby was chased by David Dimitrov of LLSC, who remained just 0.38 seconds slower form overpowering efforts of Bielby and touched the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 24.04 seconds.
In the meantime, Brittany MacLean of ESWIM snared gold medal of the Women’s 400m freestyle as she hit the finishing end with the timing of 4 minutes and 06.08 seconds.
She was chased by Savannah King of VAND, who geared up her efforts in the playoff and cemented her place on the podium for silver medal by producing a time of 4 minutes and 07.02 seconds.
Alexa Komarnycky of IS seized bronze medal of the 400m event as she remained 1.65 seconds behind and ended her swim in a time of 4 minutes and 08.67 seconds.
She was trailed by Barbara Jardin of PPO, who suffered a deficit of almost one second from her preceding swimmer and settled on the wall as fourth fastest finisher with the timing of 4 minutes and 09.80 seconds.
Page and MacLean were overjoyed with their qualification in the Canadian team to the upcoming Olympic Games and expressed that they will try hard to make their fans proud at the mega stage of sports.
