Alec Stewart expects an English comeback at Headingley - Cricket News Update
Former England Captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 will be a huge game with both teams having more than just a win at stake.
The series started with both sides having impressive home and away records. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 was last defeated by the visitors in 2008, and is currently on a seven Test series winning streak at home, while the South Africans have not lost an away series since 2006
and have already remained unbeaten in eight successive away-series.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stewart-c91370, the former England great, feels that the three-match Investec series does not deserve a dead rubber at Lord’s and is looking forward for an English victory at Leeds to keep the series alive.
“I prefer to see it as England's chance to draw level, setting us up for a grandstand decider at Lord's,” said the former wicket-keeper.
The home side suffered a heavy defeat when the visitors won the first Test at the Oval by an innings and 12 runs. It was also the first time the Poms lost a Test match since they were last defeated by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 at the Oval in 2010.
The former wicket-keeper thinks that the English team must have done its homework after the embarrassing defeat and they should find a way to bowl out the Proteas , if they want to make a successful fight back.
“After their heavy defeat in the first Test at The Oval and Andrew Strauss's side should have drawn a line under that performance once a brutally honest review had taken place. They must be able to take 20 wickets at Headingley to have the chance of winning
the Test and squaring up the series,” said the veteran.
The 49-year-old said that while a bowling wicket at Headingley could help the English pace attack with the new ball, the visitors also possess a deadly pace trio, all of whom are capable of unsettling the English batsmen.
“This could also favour South Africa's impressive attack, but after The Oval any assistance to the England bowling attack will, I am sure, be greatly appreciated,” Stewart concluded.
England and South Africa will head to Leeds to play the second Test starting from Thursday.
