Alejandro De Aza shines as Chicago White Sox defeat Detroit Tigers 2-1 – MLB Update
Chicago White Sox prevailed in a tough low-scoring game against the Detroit Tigers and breezed past them 2-1 courtesy Alejandro De Aza’s two-run homer in the second inning at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois on Wednesday, July 27.
Tigers have failed to roar against the White Sox. This has now been physically established after the Tigers have lost two series against the White Sox after the All-Star break. Detroit lost both series with a game score of 2-1 and are now 4-2 against the
White Sox in the previous six games. They lost at home immediately after the All-Star break and Wednesday’s loss completed their rout on the road.
After the All-Star break, in total, the Tigers have lost six games and have registered an equal number of wins. Their three wins against the Minnesota Twins has been their best performance after the break thus far.
Alejandro De Aza made a comeback to the Majors on Wednesday and made a statement in his very first outing. De Aza smashed Max Scherzer for a two-run homer in the second inning allowing Alexei Ramirez to complete his run.
The two runs became a magnified target for the Tigers because of John Danks’ spectacular pitching upfront. Danks has been pretty ordinary at the mound this season but produced a special performance at his home field. He pitched six innings for just six hits
and a sole run. Danks bagged ten strike-outs to take his season’s tally to 81 and career’s strike-out tally to 660. His performance earned him his fourth win of the season with eight losses looming in his win-loss tally.
The only run for Detroit came from Austin Jackson’s home-run effort at the top of the seventh inning. No other batter could compliment Jackson and thus their score stayed stale. The hit recorded Jackson’s fifth home-run of the season and ninth of his blooming
career.
Max Scherzer started decently for the Tigers and apart from the two-run homer, he did not commit any fatal mistake. However, the outcome of the hit was never to be recovered by the Detroit batters and even after going for just two runs in six innings, Scherzer
lost his sixth game. Scherzer’s win-loss record for the season now stands at 11-6.
After the game, talking about the two-run homer, Scherzer said, "I made one mistake and it cost me. I hung a 0-2 changeup and he was able to lift it out and that was the difference in the game.”
White Sox have alarmed the Cleveland Indians and the Tigers with their sudden rise to form after the All-Star break (7-4). With just 1.5 games behind Cleveland and 3.5 games behind Detroit, Chicago is now a fast-emerging threat to replace Detroit at the
top of the AL Central.
