Alejandro Dominguez eyes tough game at the Camp Nou
Valencia midfielder Alejandro Dominguez has said this weekend's league fixture against Barcelona will test the resolve of his team.
With five victories in six games, Valencia are top of the La Liga table ahead of Saturday's trip to the Camp Nou.
Dominguez, who joined Unai Emery's team from Russian side Rubin Kazan ahead of the current season, said that the game will give his team a chance to see how they stand against the strongest opposition around.
"This will be a match between two great teams, and one in which Valencia can check the level that it is at currently. We hope to put on a good show. If we get the three points, many will believe that we can win the league."
Since joining Valencia, Dominguez has made nine league appearances, both as a starter and a substitute, but his best performance came against Turkish side Bursaspor in the Champions League.
The Argentine cut a lively figure during the 4–0 victory, troubling the Turkish champions with his movement and accurate delivery in the final third.
While a similarly offensive strategy would best suit Dominguez' own playing style, the 29-year-old said that it will be up to Emery to decide how Valencia should play against Barcelona.
"We should be worried about us and if we can win, we must take the initiative, although it will be the coach who will decide how to approach the meeting."
Could make offensive gambles
This season, both Hercules and Mallorca have managed to earn points in Catalonia by defending vigorously for 90 minutes and capitalizing on breakaways.
While a degree of tactical finesse will be essential to Valencia's performance in the game, the encounter could see the league leaders attack with more confidence than Barcelona have come to expect from opposing teams at the Camp Nou.
"It will be very important that we be smart, but it would be nice to win at Barcelona. The game motivates me, and I think it does for my colleagues too."
