Alejandro Fabbri wins in 1st qualifying round against Federico Sansonetti – Uruguay Open 2011 CH
The men’s singles qualifying matches at the 2011 Uruguay Open continued on November 12, 2011, when Federico Sansonetti (Uruguay) took on Alejandro Fabbri (Argentina). The Argentinean won the match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
Both players were not in the hunt to score aces, as they delivered none, which showed that they were not showing any offensive stance. In the first set, Sansonetti conceded double faults twice while Fabbri did not give any extra
points to his opponent.
25-year old Uruguayan player had a 44% first serve winning ratio while 29-year old Argentinean had a 78% first serve winning rate. Fabbri showed a better game play in his service games as he won 67% points from his first serve
and Sansonetti could only win 56% points.
Fabbri was again in the lead as he won 50% points from his second serve and his opponent could win 35% points from his second serve.
The Argentinean, ranked at 576th place in the world, saved three out of his four breakpoints while Sansonetti, ranked at 1047th spot, could only save three out of the six breakpoints that he faced.
Sansonetti, the local player, wanted to create a lead to win the first set but his hopes left hanging as he could only win three games in the first set. Fabbri did not provide any room to his opponent in getting in the lead.
The Uruguayan won three games but his momentum was reduced by the Argentinean’s decent pace and control over the first set. Sansonetti did try to create a lead but his efforts went in vain, as he could win only three games. Fabbri
won the first set 6-3.
With the second set in progress, either of the two players could not deliver any ace. They did, however, conceded a double fault each in the set. Fabbri had a better service game outcome than his opponent did as he had an 85% first
serve winning ratio while Sansonetti could secure a 58% rate.
The Argentinean won 59% points from his first serve and his opponent could only win 53% points. In terms of winning points from second serve, Fabbri won 40% points while Sansonetti could win 27% points.
Fabbri did had a better run in saving his breakpoints as well, for he managed to save six out of the eight breakpoints that he faced. Sansonetti was unsuccessful in saving any of the three breakpoints that he faced.
Sansonetti was eyeing a second set win to equalize the match but he could only win four games. He was edging near a win but this time again Fabbri clinched the set 6-4, and made his way in the next round of the 2011 Uruguay Open.
