Alejandro Falla surprises Dustin Brown in 1st round – Mons Challenger 2011
Alejandro Falla, Columbian world No.93, played his 1st round match of the Mons Challenger 2011, Belgium, on Tuesday, 4th October, against the world No.127, Dustin Brown. Playing on blue hard courts at Greenset
Grand Prix, Brown first took the lead finishing off with the first set, however, Falla made a surprising come back to win the fixture 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 in an hour and 23 minutes.
Firing up first, Brown served to open the first game and the scoreboard winning, 1-0. Astonishingly, the German broke early and took the lead, 2-0. Falla, world No.93 was into shockers as the 26-year-old challenger tore him apart.
Brown served and broke the Columbian again to outclass the former world No.58 and took the lead, 4-0.
Extending his lead the Afro-German went on banging another game to his scoreboard before the Columbian grabbed his first win, 1-5. Breaking back Falla initiated but it was a bit late to cut the 4 games lead. Serving out the final
game, game 9, the 26-year-old took the win, 6-3, and led the match 1-0.
Seemingly the German thought he had all under his hands, however, his dreams washed away when Falla started to beat him up in set 2. Serving out game 1 of the second set, Falla took the lead, 1-0. Rallying out next, the commanding
German levelled up next and switched back the serve.
Falla flared up as he served-n-broke his 26-year-old rival and charged in, 3-1. Bagging the following game on his serve, Falla extending his lead to 4-1 before Brown launched a counter. Winning game 6, brown did try to break back
the world No.93, however, was unable to puncture the Columbians defence.
Scorching away with another serve-n-break winning, the 27-year-old levelled up the match scores, 1-1, winning the second set , 6-2, and moved on to the decider.
Falla continued to serve first and served out the first game of set 3. Brown served next; however, it seemed that he had lost his temper. Losing back-to-back games the German’s frustrations broke his threshold. The Columbian world
No.93 had a found the Djokovic in him as he served-broke-served and swirled away with a 3 games lead.
Brown’s attempt on regaining on his challenger was just not working out. Falla, on the other hand, kept on beating down game after game winning 5 in a row to lead the set 5-0. Finally, after 5 games, Brown managed to dig a win
for him as the Columbian served out next mustering away with the decider, 6-1, and winning the match 2-1 with a spectacular come back.
Winning the 1st round, Falla now moves on into the 2nd stage of the Mons Challenger 2011 to play against the top seed Xavier Malisse, Belgian, to battle it out for the quarter-final round.
