Alejandro Gomez claims Men’s 800m freestyle gold – USA Swimming Sectionals, Fort Lauderdale

Alejandro Gomez of Gator Swim Club claimed gold medal of the Men’s 800m freestyle on first day of the 2012 USA Swimming Sectionals in Fort Lauderdale on Thursday, July 12.
The 27-year-old Gomez served notice of his talent in the sixteen-lap freestyle discipline, as he showed no mercy to his challengers and reached the finishing wall for gold medal.
With his commendable speed, Gomez remained considerably ahead of his opponents and made his way to the finishing blockade by submitting a time of 8 minutes and 13.18 seconds for gold medal.
The champion was chased by Logan Samuelson of Swim Florida-FL, who stayed almost seven seconds apart and occupied second position of the discipline by reporting a time of 8 minutes and 20.44 seconds.
Third spot of the race was secured by Eric M Ress of Santa Clara Swim, who suffered a lead of just one body length from his foregoing finisher and settled on the wall as by clocking a time of 8 minutes and 21.73 seconds.
The bronze medallist was chased by Lance J Rutkin of Swim Fort Lauder, who stayed almost 0.60 seconds apart and finished fourth in the distant freestyle event by posting a time of 8 minutes and 22.31 seconds.
Fifth position of the race was secured by Liam Desjarlais of Club St. Jerome, who remained nearly three body lengths behind and touched the wall with the timing of 8 minutes and 35.84 seconds.
Subsequently, Desjarlais was traced by Connor A Haley of Adirondack Aquatics, who stayed 2.43 seconds behind and tapped the wall with the timing of 8 minutes and 38.27 seconds.
Haley was trailed by Cameron Chambers of Shark Aquatics-F, who remained almost 1.50 seconds apart and secured seventh position of the event by producing a time of 8 minutes and 39.76 seconds.
The 21-year-old Chambers was chased by Matt D Nielsen of Gulf Coast Swim, who stayed nearly two seconds behind and ended eighth in the event with the timing of 8 minutes and 41.95 seconds.
In addition, Gomez was pleased with his performance in the 800m event as he received massive appreciation from the crowd.
