Alejandro Gomez wins Men’s 800m freestyle gold: Day one – Venezuela Open Championships
Alejandro Gomez of SCLN won gold medal of the Men’s 800m freestyle in the 14 and Over category on primary day of the Venezuela Open Championships in Maracaibo on May 17.
The 27-year-old Gomez stayed prominently ahead of his challengers from the start of the event and proved his mettle for gold medal of the distant freestyle event. With his astounding efforts, he smothered all hopes of his challengers and sprinted his way towards the finishing end for the crown of the event.
With his alluring efforts, he stayed considerably ahead of his challengers throughout the event and made his way to the finishing wall for silver medal by producing a time of 8 minutes and 12.47 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Andy Arteta of PNUDC, who suffered a deficit of almost fifteen seconds from his foregoing finisher and settled on the medal rostrum for silver medal by posting a time of 8 minutes and 27.53 seconds.
The silver medallist was followed by Miguel Perez of CNCDC, who stayed almost one second apart and hit the wall with the timing of 8 minutes and 28.75 seconds for bronze medal.
Similarly, Perez was followed by Cherly Sanchez of PNUDC, who was almost eight seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and emerged on the finishing end for fourth position by posting a time of 8 minutes and 36.73 seconds for fourth position.
Fifth position of the discipline was secured by Robert Barreto of PGTDC, who stayed 0.02 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and ended his race in a time of 8 minutes and 36.75 seconds.
Barreto was chased by Javier Rivas of PNUDC, who stayed 1.27 seconds slower from his foregoing swimmer and clocked a time of 8 minutes and 38.02 seconds for sixth position.
The 18-year-old Rivas was followed by Juan Segovia of PIBOL, who stayed 1.63 seconds slower and hit the finishing end with the timing of 8 minutes and 39.65 seconds for seventh position.
Furthermore, the session concluded after the completion of all planned events while the winners earned awards and accolades for their gruelling efforts after the session.
