Alejandro Valverde is ‘very satisfied’ with his first week’s performance at the Vuelta a Espana 2012
Alejandro Valverde is having an outstanding season and the cyclist is currently seen fighting his way up the Vuelta a Espana overall classifications.
Team Movistar cyclist is 1 minute and 7 seconds behind the race leader at the fourth position after the stage 9 classifications.
Joaquim Rodriguez Oliver of Team Katusha is leading the category while Christopher Froome and Alberto Contador hold the second and the third position with a deficit of 53 second and 1 minute over Rodriguez respectively.
Alejandro is aiming towards the final general classifications and is ideally placed to cut-down the overall lead in the coming stages of the race.
The Spaniard’s current season include an overall victory at the Vuelta a Andalucia, second overall at the Santos Tour Down Under ant third at the Paris-Nice 2012 and also secured a stage each at all the three mentioned races.
He was part of the strong Team Movistar that succeeded during the opening team’s time trial stage 1 of the Vuelta a Espana and also succeeded claimed the third and the eighth stages of the race.
“I knew I was going to be strong, but not in such a good fitness level,” he said on the team's website.
“Sensations are still good as we head into the halfway point of the Vuelta, so we must profit from this moment for as long as possible”.
“This doesn't change anything about what I said at the start of the race, and seeing that I'm here and as long as strength goes with me, I'll keep fighting for the GC”.
“With three stage victories that leave us very satisfied after this first week”.
