Aleksander Hetland and Cecilie Johannessen nab titles: Day two – Norway Long Course Championships
Day two of the Norway Long Course Championships started with the scintillating performances of Aleksander Hetland and Cecilie Johannessen in Drammen, Norway, on Sunday, July 10.
Aleksander Hetland secured victory in the Men’s 50m butterfly event, whereas, Cecilie Johannessen clinched the Women’s 50m freestyle meet. She also won the Women’s 800m freestyle title. Alexander Dale Oen took home the Men’s 200m breast-stroke crown.
Initially, Aleksander Hetland earned first place honours after he touched the finishing wall in the Men’s 50m butterfly preliminary in 24.59 seconds. More importantly, Hetland beat his previous record of 24.62 seconds, set in 2008.
In the Men’s 50m butterfly finals, Hetland completed his distance in 24.49 seconds. In the meantime, Oystein Hetland wound up second in 25.02 seconds and Alexander Broberg Skeltved rounded out the top three in 25.41 seconds.
In another event, the Women’s 50m freestyle event was captured by Cecilie Johannessen in 25.96 seconds. Susann Bjornsen finished second in 26.30 seconds, whereas, Henriette Brekke was placed third in a time of 26.43 seconds.
Johannessen nabbed her second title in the Women’s 800m freestyle meet with a sterling time of 8 minutes and 54.08 seconds, while Elin Slaatmo earned second place honours in 8 minutes and 55.83 seconds. The bronze medal went to Lise Sand Syversen in 9 minutes
and 04.88 seconds. Johannessen was really excited and pleased by winning two events in the championship.
The Men’s 200m breast-stroke title was nabbed by Alexander Dale Oen in a winning time of 2 minutes and 12.76 seconds. Meanwhile, Sverre Naess grabbed second spot in 2 minutes and 18.88 seconds, while Sebastian Wigstrom wound up third in a time of 2 minutes
and 21.04 seconds.
Additionally, the Women’s 400m medley relay crown was taken over by the group of four swimmers including Christine Pedersen, Sara Nordenstam, Line Lovberg and Victoria Loken with a victorious time of 4 minutes and 17.18 seconds.
The Norway Long Course Championships is an exciting opportunity for swimmers to prepare for the upcoming 2011 FINA World Championships, in Shanghai, China, from July 16-31.
