Aleksander Hetland wins Men’s 50m freestyle title: Day four – Norway Long Course Championships
Another Norwegian swimmer put up a show with his impressive performance in the Men’s 50m freestyle meet at the Norway Long Course Championships, in Drammen, Norway, on Tuesday, July 12, 2011. The session on day four of the championship conducted the finals
of the event.
Hetland commenced the final in a strong manner as he left his competitors, Oystein Hetland and Gard Kvale behind with a fringe margin of time. He completed his distance in 23.37 seconds and secured the gold medal in the 50m freestyle.
Meanwhile, Oystein Hetland earned the silver medal in 23.76 seconds, while Gard Kvale captured the bronze title in 23.77 seconds. After capturing the title, Hetland was really thrilled with his individual performance in the long course championship.
Aleksander Hetland is a competitive swimming of Norway, who has expertise in the freestyle, Individual Medley and breast-stroke categories. He has secured impressive victories in several events in competitive swimming.
He took home the Men’s 50m breast-stroke crown at the 2009 European SC Championships, in Istanbul. He grabbed three silver medals in the 50m breast-stroke events consecutively, at the European SC Championships, from 2007-2010. Besides, he snatched one bronze
medal in the 50m breast-stroke meet at the 2010 World Championships, in Dubai.
Currently, Hetland is preparing for the next year’s Olympics event in London.
In earlier swims, Cecilie Johannessen, Lavrans Solli and Christine Pedersen won their events in the meet. Johannessen snared the Women’s 100m freestyle gold medal with a triumphant time of 55.99 seconds, whereas, Solli grabbed the Men’s 100m back-stroke
in 56.97 seconds.
In the Women’s 200m back-stroke meet, Pedersen hit the wall in 2 minutes and 20.44 seconds to earn the first place honours. Veronia Orheim Bjorlykke captured the second spot in 2 minutes and 22.02 seconds, whereas, the third place went to Gina Andersen in
2 minutes and 22.38 seconds.
Additionally, Erin Slaatmo nabbed the Women’s 1500m freestyle crown with a sterling time of 17 minutes and 04.04 seconds, while Sara Nordenstam clinched victory in the Women’s 200m breast-stroke, after she ended her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 28.12
seconds.
