Soviet Top League winner believes that the Moscow-based club need to work hard if they are to qualify for the later stages of the UEFA Champions League
Former Dynamo Moscow player and football analyst, Aleksandr Bubnov, has urged Spartak Moscow to improve despite their latest 2-1 Russian Premier League win against Volga Nizhny Novgorod at Luzhniki stadium.
Two wins out of two matches does not seem to impress Bubnov, who believes Spartak need to work harder.
“Volga played a lot like they played their last game against Dynamo. But then, Nizhny Novgorod were having a numerical disadvantage after losing a player. Today they played in equal compositions.”
“However, I have observed that the Volzhane were not strong enough, it's a question for the physical fitness team.” The Soviet Cup winner was quoted as saying.
The hosts secured all three points after scoring an injury-time goal in their pursuit to continue their mission of reclaiming the league title this season. It has been over ten years since Spartak won the league title.
The Russian analyst has spoken of his delight after seeing the Moscow-based club edge past the Selmashi in a thrilling contest. However, he believes that the Myaso needs to work a lot harder if they are to reach the later stages
of the UEFA Champions League.
The Spartachi managed to secure Champions League qualification after finishing 2nd last year, and Bubnov is of the view that the Moscow-based club is far from the standards needed to become a fearful European side.
“The Red-white will soon be involved in a higher level tournament, the European tournament. They have to improve standards because I don’t they them as a deadly European team.” Bubnov said
Spartak were knocked out of the continental tournament after suffering an aggregate 5-4 defeat in the UEFA Europa League play-off round against Legia Warsaw, despite drawing the first leg on the away turf.
However, Bubnov believes that the Moscow-based club has the quality required to reach the later stages in Europe.
