Zenit St. Petersburg striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Aleksandr-Kerzhakov-c4569, has lamented their latest Russian Premier League defeat against arch rivals Spartak Moscow at Petrovsky stadium. As things stand, the Meshki are at the top spot and 13 points
ahead of their closest rivals- CSKA Moscow.
The former Dynamo Moscow striker bemoaned the outcome, admitting that the St. Petersburg club deserved to lose the match after putting in a weak performance against the Moscow-based club.
Kerzhakov has urged his teammates to win the last match of the campaign against Anzhi Makhachkala at Makhachkala stadium, and assured the fans of fighting until the last minute of the match despite winning the league title
already.
He went on to hail the St. Petersburg club’s decent league campaign this season, admitting that the Russian outfit deserved their lead atop the league table despite recording their first defeat during the third league round.
The 29-year-old forward credited the entire squad for helping Zenit retain the league title this season, and assured the fans of winning more trophies in the near future.
Kerzhakov revealed that Zenit deserve to retain the league title after putting in a lot of hard work. Though, the Meshki were seven points behind CSKA Moscow during the second league round, they leapfrogged the Moscow-based
club to reclaim the top spot.
Though, Zenit had a disappointing start to the third league round after recording back-to-back draws against CSKA Moscow and Kuban Krasnodar respectively, they turned the tables after claiming 18 points in eight outings.
The former Sevilla forward went on to admit that the Meshki have players who can decided the fate of the match on their own. He praised their winning spirit by giving the example of their 2-2 draw against Kuban Krasnodar.
The St. Petersburg club came from behind to score a late equaliser after conceding two goals at Kuban stadium against the Cossacks. Kerzhakov revealed that the Meshki would have won the match had they taken all their chances.
