Aleksandra Wozniak cripples Anastasia Rodionova to reach the main draw – BNP Paribas Open 2012
Qualifier’s sixth seed, Aleksandra Wozniak, slaughtered Anastasia Rodionova with a breadstick at the BNP Paribas Open 2012 on Tuesday. She nudged up a 6-3, 6-1 victory over the Russian-born to secure a place in the main draw at this WTA (Women’s Tennis Association)

Wozniak took one hour and 22 minutes to topple over the 16th seeded Aussie in their third meeting. She not only avenged her defeat against Rodionova at the Guangzhou WTA event but also assertively entered round one.
The Canadian made a shaky entry at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden and suffered the first blow in the third game to trail at 1-2. However, she recovered in the proceeding game and then held her composure to pocket his remaining serves. Wozniak got the breakthrough
in the eighth game and clinched the opener with a 6-3 score line.
Ranked 86th in the WTA Premier Rankings, Wozniak kept her rhythm in the follow-up set and outclassed the Aussie completely. After Rodionova held her serve in the opening game, the Canadian unleashed barrage of massive forehands and went on a six-game
killing spree, ultimately pulling out a breadstick.
The 24-year-old produced a slightly higher first serve share of 55 per cent and brilliantly marked 21 out of 34 points on it. Wozniak blocked three out of four breakpoints she came across and converted five out of nine break opportunities to her advantage.
The highly energetic Canadian reached this round after dumping the British tennis star, Heather Watson, in straight sets.
She will face the local wild entrant, Sloane Stephens, in the opening round.
The 23rd seed, Alize Cornet, became the casualty of the day. She made quick in-roads and clinched the opener with a 6-2 score line with two breaks of serve. However, she lost her track after this and subsequently suffered a 6-2, 6-7(4), 6-7(3)
shock at the hands of China’s Shuai Zhang.
As a result, Zhang confidently entered the first round where she will confront the Romanian number one, Simona Halep. The Chinese is eying to reach far in this tournament and is looking forward to practice harder in order to overpower an experienced contestant.
