Aleksandra Wozniak faces defeat at the hands of Caroline Wozniacki in the quarterfinals – Rogers Cup
Canadian number one, Aleksandra Wozniak, received a straight sets defeat, 4-6, 4-6, at the hands of seventh seeded, Caroline Wozniacki, in the quarter-final of the Rogers Cup. The match took place on the outdoor hard courts
of Montreal, Canada on Saturday afternoon, with the former world number one registering a comprehensive victory in twin sets.
Wozniak is the only Canadian women to contest until the quarterfinals after Patricia Hy-Boulais did way back in 1992. In an interview before the match, she told the media, “I came back and played aggressive and now I'm going
to go back and try to recover for the next match.”
Wozniak levelled the scores in the start of the set at 1-1. Nevertheless, a cracking breakpoint was witnessed and Wozniacki secured a lead of 4-2. Although the Canadian struggled hard to catch-up with the might of her opponent,
but was unable to clinch any point. The Danish tennis ace carried on with her momentum and jolted a 6-4 score line to get one up in the contest.
The subsequent set did not show any drastic improvement in the players’ game plan. The 24-year-old battled hard to equalize the scores twice, but could no reap any benefit. Both players faced consecutive breakpoints in the
set. Finally Wozniak took a 3-2 lead against the Danish tennis ace. The score between the two equalized to 3-3 for the first time in the second set.
Ranked 55th in the WTA Premier Rankings, Wozniak grabbed a couple of aces in the match. She had a 39 percent second serve rate, which was considerably lower than her first. The eighth ranked Danish
professional fully picked up momentum and nudged cross two points in a row to declare her final set victory.
However, the Canadian double faulted twice to her rival, which was one of her biggest mistake being committed in the dire circumstances. She also had a 25 percent break point conservation rate, whereas Wozniacki showed brilliant
high scores of 80 percent and secured a total of 78 points in the end.
Wozniacki is drawn to play against the fifth seeded Czech, Petra Kvitova in the next match.
