Aleksandra Wozniak hits back at Alexandra Cadantu to reach quarters – Budapest Grand Prix 2012

Canadian blooming star, Aleksandra Wozniak, made an epic comeback to outrun Romania’s Alexandra Cadantu in a three-set thriller at the Budapest Grand Prix 2012 on Wednesday. She joggled up a 6-7(2), 6-0, 6-0 victory against the 22-year-old to power into
the quarter-finals at this WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) International-level tournament held in Budapest, Hungary.
After losing the opening set, Wozniak reeled off the last 12 games in a row to outsmart the world number 74 in their first outing. After earning this success, the Canadian reached her first quarter-final since Ponte Vedra Beach two years ago.
The Romanian starlet made quick in-roads and pulled out the opener with a 7-6(2) score line. She drew the first blood in the third game and put her nose ahead for the first time. Despite losing her following two serves, Wozniak remained focused and snatched
her break back in the seventh game. The set eventually went to the tie-breaker where the Canadian jumped to a 3-1 lead before bagging the set.
The 24-year-old on the other hand went on a six-game killing spree and plucked the bagel. She brushed off the lone breakpoint she came across and capitalised on three out of four break opportunities to equalise the set scores by 1-1.
Ranked 57th in the WTA Premier Rankings, Wozniak carried her rhythm in the final set and stroke out all six games successively to earn the glory. She was never threatened with any hindrance in this set and converted three out of four break chances
to her advantage.
Summing up the Canadian’s performance, Wozniak spilled more double faults and produced a poor first serve share of 51 per cent as compared to her rival’s 69 per cent. However, she impressively clinched 30 out of 44 points on it and capitalised on eight out
of 10 break opportunities to inch towards her second career title.
Up next for Wozniak is the Georgian starlet, Anna Tatishvili who crushed the local wild card entrant, Vanda Lukacs, with a breadstick to set-up this meeting. The Georgian lost her serve once but cashed in half of the 10 break opportunities to formulate a
6-1, 6-2 success.
