Aleksandra Wozniak to skip first three tournaments in 2011
The professional tennis player from Canada, Aleksandra Wozniak will skip the beginning of the 2011 WTA tennis year as a result of some undisclosed health issues.
Currently ranked number 126 in the South African Airways WTA list, Aleksandra finished her 2010 year quite early due to tendinitis in her right forearm.
The 23-year-old, who made her debut on the WTA tour back in 2005, is the all time fourth highest ranked female singles player from Canada. She has so far grabbed a single WTA and seven ITF crowns in her career and is also the only Quebecer ever to have captured
a WTA title on the tour.
The Blainville native started her 2010 campaign by competing at the year’s opening Grand Slam, the Australian Open back in January. She however couldn’t go beyond the second round as Aleksandra was toppled by her close buddy Caroline Wozniacki in two sets.
The final match score was 6–4, 6–2.
After suffering early defeats in Indian Wells and Miami, she next played in Ponte Vedra Beach where the Canadian did well to reach the quarterfinals before losing at the hands of Dominika Cibulkova in straight sets. The final score line was 5–7 1–6.
Aleksandra was thrashed out in the third round at French Open and second round in Wimbledon before another early round exit at the year’s final Grand Slam, the United States Open where she was toppled by Sally Peer in straight sets. It was her last tournament
of the season as she afterwards injured her forearm.
According to the recent news, Aleksandra Wozniak will miss the first three competitions in 2011, including the opening major event in Melbourne.
"One thing is for sure; my 2010 year was a trying and challenging one right to the end. I am a tennis player, the sport is my passion and I am at my best on a tennis court so I am very anxious to get back once and for all in full health”, reflected Wozniak.
Tennis Canada did not provide any further details regarding her health. However, the right hander is expected to hold a press conference next month to speak in depth about her fitness and health.
