Aleksandra Wozniak wants to win more WTA tournaments – Tennis News
Canada’s highest ranked female tennis player, Aleksandra Wozniak, is not yet content with her achievements and has more dreams in her list. The 25-year-old aims to win more WTA titles, improve her career best ranking and even capturing
Grand Slam crowns.
Wozniak was at Ottawa’s St. Elizabeth Elementary School as a spokeswoman of National Bank to promote the On the Ball Program by the organization. Used tennis balls are donated to schools through this program, in order to place
them under the legs of chairs and desks, stopping the noise of dragging in the classrooms and facilitating learning.
Talking to media at that moment, Wozniak shared the level of commitment professional players should have to survive on the tour.
She said, “Its airports, hotels, packing and unpacking. But not only that. You (also) have to be focused and ready to go to play your heart out on court and just to practise.”
Wozniak has already achieved so much, which not many of her countrywomen could. The right-hander became first female from Quebec to break into the top 50 players in the world. The Canadian did not stop there and reached her career
best ranking of 21.
The 5ft 9in tall captured her first and last title so far in California in 2008, beating on her way three super stars including Francesca Schiavone, Serena Williams and Marion Bartoli. Wozniak also represented her country at the
London Olympics, where she lost to the former world number one, Venus Williams, in the second round.
The Canadian’s highest achievement in this season was her quarter-final performance at the Rogers Cup in Montreal. There she stunned another former top ranked player, Jelena Jankovic, in the second round. Wozniak also overpowered
the then world number 26, Christina McHale of USA, in the round of 16 but went down at the hands of seventh seeded contestant from Denmark, Caroline Wozniacki, at the last-eight stage.
Wozniak stated, “For sure I want to win more WTA tournaments and beat my highest ranking of 21st in the world. It’s every little girl’s dreams, the Grand Slams.”
She added, “You take it one step at a time. The best peak now in women’s tennis, it looks like now you get it at 28 years old, or 30. Serena (31) is stronger than ever.”
At a time when she was looking to rise again, the Canadian injured her shoulder while playing an ITF event in September. She has not played any tournament since then and is in the rehabilitation process to get fit for the 2013
season.
