Alena Alexeeva impresses in Women’s 100m butterfly final – World Deaf Swimming Championships
Alena Alexeeva of Russia impressed the aquatic centre by winning the gold medal of Women’s 100m butterfly meet on the sixth day of the 2011 World Deaf Swimming Championships on Friday, August 12, in Coimbra, Portugal.
With her acknowledging effort, Alexeeva lowered the Deaf Championship Record, by reporting in a time of 1 minute and 05.28 seconds. She was 0.13 seconds under the former championship record of 1 minute and 05.41 seconds, set by Caroline Miller of USA in
1995. In addition, her title claiming effort was 1.26 seconds slower than the Deaf World Record of 1 minute and 04.02 seconds, made by Ekaterina Savchenko of Russia in 2009.
She was trailed by Ayaka Fujikawa of Japan, who remained 0.94seconds slower than the top position holder and reported in a time of 1 minute and 06.22 seconds for silver medal. Peggy Liang of United States emerged as the third position holder of the event,
as she remained 0.23 seconds behind her preceding swimmer and clocked a time of 1 minute and 06.45 seconds.
In the meantime, Anastasiya Filipchyk of Belarus transpired as the fourth finest swimmer of the 100m swim, as she remained only 0.32 seconds slower than the third finisher and produced a time of 1 minute and 06.77 seconds. Filipchyk was chased by Hannah
Fitton of Great Britain, who was just 0.64 seconds behind her foregoing swimmer and ended her swim, with a timing of 1 minute and 07.41 seconds.
Meanwhile, Cornell Loubser of South Africa surfaced as the sixth fastest swimmer of the event, as she was 0.37 seconds behind Fitton and touched the finishing wall to clock a time of 1 minute and 07.78 seconds. Katsiaryna Eramtsova was named as the seventh
best swimmer of the event, as she concluded her swim in 1 minute and 08.00 seconds, whereas, Jessica Weeden ended up as the eighth finisher in 1 minute and 10.62 seconds.
Furthermore, the crowd was overjoyed with the heart-winning swims of all athletes, while the winners received medals for their wonderful swims after the session.
