Alena Sharp all set for battle at Kingsmill Championship
Canadian Alena Sharp, who boasts 8 professional victories in her career, is getting ready to face rivals at the Kingsmill Championship 2012, set to be staged from September 6-9 at Williamsburg, Virginia, United States.
Although Sharp has not been able to win any LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) event in her professional career, observers have referred to star golfers’ positive strength and resilience as very crucial for the Canadian squad.
Other than being one of the most down-to-earth players on the LPGA Tour, Sharp is also best known for her solid putting and swing expertise.
Although she has exhibited a below-average performance in recent tournament, she still has not lost hope and wants to make a name for herself on the LPGA Tour — although she is now 31.
Observers say that sometimes Sharp messes up on the fairways and bunkers, but her skilful touch on the putting greens bails her out frequently.
They said that this expertise has resulted in a remarkable stretch of Canadian prodigy’s game lately: a tie-25 at the Kraft Nabisco Championship 2011, a tie-47 at the 2010 LPGA Championship.
Although a professional since 2003, Sharp has mostly played on the Canadian Women’s Tour. She has won two titles at the Canadian PGA Women’s Championship in 2004 and 2005.
She then joined the LPGA Tour in 2005, putting her skills to the test at a much bigger stage than the Canadian Women’s Tour.
Sharp has been training hard on the practice range and has been able to fix some of the fatal flaws in her strokes, but she still has a long way to go before she can even think of comparing herself to stars like Stacy Lewis of the United States and current world number one Yani Tseng
The part of LPGA star’s game that needs to be focused on now is her swing.
The professional golfer has been optimistic right from the start and has never given the impression that she has become tired of making an effort on the course.
“I guess, I've always been a player where I would start off slow, and every year I would get a little bit better".
"I feel like this year has been a lot better for me than last year. I've already made more money this year than I have until last year at this point,” Sharp had said in one of her interviews.
