Alena Sharp confirmed to participate in the CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012
Canadian Alena Sharp, who failed to make the cut at the 2011 CN Canadian Women’s Open, looks all set to atone for lapses in the coming edition of the tournament, set to be staged from August 20-26, at The Vancouver Golf Club, Canada.
Sharp could not live up to the expectations of her fans and the Canadian spectators last year, as her game was sloppy enough to stop her from moving ahead. On the other hand, Sharp’s fellow Canadian Maude-Aimee Leblanc played a much better game as she posted a good score to finish in the top 50.
The LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournament is going to pit battle-hardened players against each other, and it is expected that Asian players will be dominating the leaderboard this time too, despite many American and European contenders in the 156-player roster.
Sharp, who was expected to cheer her fans on the course, faltered in first two rounds of the last edition. She kicked off the tournament in an unimpressive style and posted a 77 in the opening round. In the second round, she tried hard to bounce back, but other players were quick enough to pile up a massive lead, making it even more difficult for the Canadian star to move ahead.
Sharp finished tied for the 125th position on the leaderboard and walked off the course lowering her head. However, this year’s CN Canadian Women’s Open may bring big surprises to the struggling rookie, as she has prior experience in the said tournament.
Leblanc, however, proved that she had what it took to play in pressure. She looked stunning and troubled other contenders at one stage. Leblanc got off to a solid start and fired an overall 288 to finish tied for the 49th spot on the leaderboard.
Her best performance was recorded in the third round, as she shot a 67. Speaking to the media at the end of the third round, Leblanc said that she was pretty happy after posting a solid score.
“I think I'm in a good momentum right now. I really enjoy playing in front of all of the crowd from Quebec. So, yeah, I would be disappointed for sure,” she said.
Analysts said that Canadian stars must do their best at Vancouver this year, if they want to keep the local fans interested in the tournament.
