Alena Sharp firm to do her best at Manulife Financial LPGA Classic 2012
Canadian Alena Sharp knows that the only way to do her best at the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic 2012 is to hold her nerve, as she said that she is eager to cheer Canadian fans this time.
The tournament is set to be staged from June 21-24, at Waterloo, Canada, with a formidable field, featuring competent LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) contenders.
Sharp ranks among the most talented Canadian players, as she has recorded 8 professional victories so far.
Analysts said that the Canadian star is in the process of reshaping her game, as she has been having trouble making perfect putts. They, however, pointed out that Sharp is eager to record her maiden win on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association)
Tour.
The 31-year-old golfer has been seeking to find her lost form since 2009, but her worse-than-expected performance on the LPGA Tour has been a problem right from the start.
Golf commentators said that Sharp is capable of outplaying big names, but she usually gets under pressure in LPGA tournaments.
They went on to say that the professional player has to learn to hold her nerve on the course, which can help her atone for her past lapses.
Having racked up two titles at Canadian Women’s Tour, Sharp may capitalise on her experience of the local course. The struggling star knows the Waterloo course well, and the crowd support is likely to go in her favour as well.
According to the Manulife LPGA Classic officials, the field for the tournament is quite strong, which will help attract a huge number of spectators.
Other prominent Canadian players include Jennifer Kirby and Lorie Kane.
Speaking to the media about how she is going to fare against rivals at Waterloo, the golfing sensation said that she expects to get support from her fans and the Canadian spectators.
“It's great for golf in Canada. There's a lot more ladies on the LPGA Tour from Canada now. A few years ago there was only two of us and now we have, I think, almost 10,” Sharp said.
“To have two events in Canada, I think it's a great way for people to come out and watch us. They're always gracious fans, and we always seem to sell out almost when we play in Canada, especially here in Ontario”.
