Alessandra Marchioro dominates Women’s 50m freestyle semi-final – Jose Finkel Trophy
Alessandra Marchioro of FFC/RJ dominated the semi-final of Women’s 50m freestyle on foremost day of the 2012 Jose Finkel Trophy in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Monday, August 20.
Marchioro, who qualified into the semi-final as third finest swimmer, lived up to the expectations of her supporters by occupying the fastest qualification spot in the playoff. She faced tough competition from her fellow swimmers throughout the event but
managed to make her way to the wall as fastest finisher.
With her unrelenting efforts, Marchioro remained just a touch ahead of her following swimmer and entered the final round as top contender for gold medal with a timing of 24.72 seconds.
Her fastest qualification effort was chased by Inge Dekker of FIAT/MINAS, who was only 0.01 seconds behind and finished second in the event by producing a time of 24.73 seconds.
Dekker was followed by Graciele Hermann of GNU, who suffered a deficit of only 0.09 seconds from her foregoing finisher and clocked an effort of 24.82 seconds for third position.
The third fastest qualifying swimmer was followed by Marieke Katherine Guehrer of CRF/RJ, who remained only 0.04 seconds slower from her former finisher and secured fourth position of the event with a timing of 24.86 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was secured by Flavia Delaroli-Cazziolato of ECP/SABESP, who stayed 0.13 seconds slower and clocked an effort of 24.99 seconds.
Delaroli-Cazziolato was followed by her team-member, Larissa Martins Oliveira, who remained prominent for sixth fastest spot of the event by producing a time of 25.21 seconds.
Subsequently, seventh position of the race was secured by Daynara Ferreira Paula of CRF/RJ, who was only 0.07 seconds slower from her former finisher and completed her swim in a time of 25.28 seconds.
Paula was chased by Daniele Paoli Jesus of ECP/SABESP, who was just 0.06 seconds away from her foregoing finisher and qualified into the final round  as eighth fastest swimmer with a timing of 25.34 seconds.
Marchioro was pleased with her fastest qualification effort and articulated her desire of winning gold medal by dominating the playoff of the single lap event.
