Alessandro Ballan content with his performance at the Paris-Roubaix 2012
Alessandro Ballan of Team BMC has not registered any first place finishes during the current season.
The cyclist was determined to claim the top podium spot during the Paris-Roubaix 2012 but could not match the likes of Tom Boonen and Sebastien Turgot.
Boonen of Team Omega Pharma-Quick step was unstoppable during the 257.5 kilometre race and became part of the history by marking his fourth win at the French race.
Sebastien Turgot of Team Europcar finished 1 minute and 39 seconds behind achieving the second podium spot while Ballan claimed the third position.
The Italian has marked a few Podium places in the season. He finished at the 3rd overall spot during the Paris-Roubaix and the Tour of Flanders 2012.
The cyclist finished 4th at the Strade Bianche, 8th at the Milan-San Remo and 9th at the E3 Harelbeke before and has yet again finished at the podium during the tenth biggest race of the season, Paris-Roubaix.
While commenting on his third place finish at the French race, Ballan appreciated the lightning form of his Belgian competitor and admitted that he truly deserved to first place finish.
“Tom did more than 60km in front alone with a lot of wind. He showed that he had great condition and I think he would have won Roubaix in any case," Ballan said.
"Over the radio they told me not to pull and that gap opened and Boonen went”.
"To be honest, I thought that with so many kilometres to go to the finish he wouldn't be able to do it, but instead he showed he was in great shape".
"I thought Sky would be able to pull him back, but they only made one rider pull at a time”, he concluded.
The Italian started his professional pursuit with Team Lampre in 2004 and stayed with the side for a period of six years.
He helped the team with a number of victories during his stay before accepting an offer from the American side Team BMC for the 2010 season.
Alessandro is currently representing Team BMC for the third consecutive season and is determined to take his performance to the next level in the coming part of the season.
