Alessandro Giannessi destroys James Duckworth in first round – Uruguay Open 2011 CH
Italian Alessandro Giannessi defeated Aussie James Duckworth in the first round of the 2011 Uruguay Open on Monday, November 14th. The Italian merely required only one hour and eighteen minutes to secure a straight sets,
6-4, 6-4 win.
19-year old Australian scored four aces in the match and he did great as he did not concede any double fault in any set of the match. He had a 67% first serve winning rate throughout the match, which was slightly higher than the
63% winning rate his opponent had secured.
As the first set progressed, the Australian scored two aces. Giannessi could only score a single ace. Both players did not concede any double fault in the first set, which was the reason for they were playing a cautions game with
their service games.
Giannessi, ranked at world number 136th spot, won 86% points from his first serve and 60% points from the second serve. On the other hand, Duckworth, ranked at the 266th spot, won 70% points from his first
serve and 60% points from the second.
The Australian was at the back foot because of his lack of experience not being able to play his service games well. Duckworth could not save the only breakpoint, which he got, reducing his momentum in the set.
Giannessi was better able to play all his service games as he saved the only breakpoint that he faced. Duckworth played the match well but he could not gain any lead over his opponent. The Italian sustained his lead in the set
and restricted Duckworth in winning only four games. Giannessi won the first set 6-4.
With the second set in progress, Duckworth was again proving to be a decent player when he scored with two aces. His service games were slightly better than Giannessi’s, but lacked the pace to put him in the lead.
Duckworth was playing with confidence and did not concede any double fault. Giannessi, on the other hand, could not deliver any ace but he got a bit desperate in ending the set at the earliest, which is why he conceded double faults
thrice in the set.
The Australian had a 58% first serve winning rate, which was quite higher than Giannessi’s 46% rate. Duckworth was on the losing side when he could not score much with his first serves. He won 50% points from his first serve as
compared to the 85% points won by Giannessi.
Duckworth was able to save four out of the six breakpoints faced, while Giannessi could not win the only breakpoint he faced. Giannessi won the second set 6-4 and cruised into the next round of the tournament.
