Alessandro Giannessi vs Joao Souza – Quarterfinal Preview: Uruguay Open 2011 CH
Italian Alessandro Giannessi will give his best shot to overpower Brazilian Joao Souza when the two will meet for the quarterfinals in Montevideo. Their match, the men’s singles competition at the Uruguay Open 2011, will determine
who books a seat in the semi finals. Both players have been showing consistency in the ongoing tournament. 23-year old Souza won his first round match against compatriot Tiago Fernandes in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.
In his second round match, Souza defeated Marcel Felder (Uruguay), again in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0. On the other hand, 21-year old Giannessi has been playing and winning his matches with confidence. He won his first round match
in straight sets against James Duckworth (Australia), 6-4, 6-4. The Italian played his second round match against Martin Cuevas (Uruguay) and defeated Cuevas 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.
The two competitors have the potential to give each other a tough time provided they get a good start in the first set. They would have to keep a close eye on their double faults and use their service games for an advantage in
securing a lead.  Ranked at 101st place in the world, Souza has been a playing tennis is the ATP circuit for a longer time than Giannessi. The Brazilian has a 112/98 win/loss in the ATP division while Giannessi has a 19/19 win/loss ratio in his
ATP career.
Giannessi, ranked at the world number 136th spot, will have to watch out for Souza’s serves and his service games. Souza, seeded at number four in the 2011 Uruguay Open, has scored 126 aces in his career. On the other
hand, Giannessi, who is playing as an eighth seeded player, has only scored three aces in his career. The Brazilian will take advantage of his service games as he has a 73% success rate in winning games with his serves. Giannessi would have to work hard in
either playing well all of Souza’s serves or break her serves, as the Italian has won 68% of his service games.
Souza, who made his way into the qualifying rounds of the 2011 French Open, would be the crowd favourite for his experience and insights in the game of tennis.  21-year old Giannessi, who was the runner up at the 2011 Tennislife
Cup in Italy, would be the underdog but he can secure a win only if he plays controlled shots and does not get intimidated by Souza or his higher career statistics. The semi final spot of the tournament would be the driving force for both the competitors as
they head into their quarterfinal match in Montevideo.
