Juventus striker Alessandro Matri has expressed his happiness for the club and himself after the Old Lady managed to register a morale boosting 2-0 victory over AS http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 on Sunday. Matri scored the winning goal for the Old Lady in the 74th minute
to make sure the weaker side returned from Rome with a victory in the bag. Despite missing out on the two biggest names; Del Piero and Buffon, Juve secured the maximum points.
The victory means that Juve remain 7th in the league table; they occupy the last Europa League berth. Furthermore, the Roman humbling has brought the Old Lady to just two points from AS Roma, who are sixth in the standings with 48 points to their
name.
Matri revealed the team’s strategy in the after math of the victory. Matri said that the team simply did not relax, and despite taking the lead, they played as if the game was still a draw. The striker talked to media after the match, and was quoted saying:
“We are happy with the result and the performance considering how we managed the game after taking the lead. We didn't sit back like we have done in the past, but continued to play as if it were 0-0. I didn't imagine starting 2011 so well - the goals with
Juventus, Italy and the praise from the Coach. I have always worked for this and even if it's all happening very quickly, I am happy and want to continue at this level.”
On the other hand, Matri’s teammate and midfielder, Claudio Marchisio, reckons that the club needs to consider one fixture at a time and stay firm to finish a few spots higher in the league. The central midfielder is optimistic about the current situation
and believes the Lady Killers can manage a higher finish.
Marchisio recently revealed his thinking, saying that a game-to-game approach is suitable for the outfit in the current situation and the team needs to follow that pattern. Moreover, he commented on the toughness of the team and boasted that the team has
never lacked its solidity. The players stand United and would do anything to put in match winning performances like they did against Roma. The versatile playmaker believes that the team is much better this year as it has the tendency to sustain more pressure.
The Serie A ends in a course of 7 games and the 21 points remaining in the season will be crucial and if Juventus are to finish in respectable position in the table.
