Alessandro Nesta pledges to end career at AC Milan
AC Milan defender Alessandro Nesta has admitted he considered leaving the Italian team during his prolonged spell on the sidelines earlier this year.
Nesta ruptured a tendon in his knee ahead of Milan's Champions League encounter with Manchester United in March, an injury that kept him out for the rest of the season. In the influential defender's absence, Milan suffered a 4–0 defeat to Sir Alex Ferguson's
team.
Nesta, who returned for Milan at the start of their current league campaign, has also had his career threatened by a serious back injury that kept him out of action for most of the 2008-09 season.
When speaking to Italian daily Tuttosport, the defender admitted to having contemplated ending his playing career during his long spell on the sidelines, from which he recovered from through hard work at the club's training ground.
"It’s not a miracle. I returned to Milanello and worked hard. There was also a time when I thought about leaving," the 34-year-old said before committing his future to his current club. "I will end my career at Milan."
Milan targeting fifth consecutive victory
With eight games played, Massimiliano Allegri's team are second in the Serie A with 17 points, two short of Nesta's former club SS Lazio.
In the run-up to their much anticipated encounter with Juventus on Saturday, 30 October, Milan have won four league games in a row. Nesta said he believes the team's winning streak has provided the perfect preparation for Saturday's encounter.
"If you want to win the championship, and we want, you must have continuity. We come from four consecutive victories, this is already a good sign. And beat Juve gives a special charge: mentally, it boosts even more."
After Saturday's game, Milan will host Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday, 3 November.
