Alessandro Petacchi to leave 2012 nightmare behind, and have a fresh 2013 start
Alessandro Petacchi is all set to leave behind the dreadful 2012 season and is looking to take his performance to the next level in 2013.
The cyclist has already started training for the season ahead and noted that his declined 2012 form was mainly because of injuries, illness and other issues.
The 38-year-old’s only commendable performance in the current season came during the Bayern-Rundfahrt, where he bagged three stages and the point’s classifications at the race.
"Now I'm quite right and I have established a gym in my house, so I'll be able to train at home during the winter," Petacchi told Biciclismo.
"2013 is going to be a very important season for me. I would like to prove myself that I can still be a player and I think I can”.
“I believe I can give great satisfaction to the team. In a few days I will start with the gym, then I will return the bike," he concluded.
Petacchi marked his professional debut with Team Scrigno-Blue Storm in 1996 and served the team through 1999.
He served Team Fassa Bortolo through 2000-05 before pledging his future to Team Milram for three seasons, 2006-08.
Alessandro joined Team LPR Brakes-Ballan through 2008-09 before signing up with the Italian side, Team Lampre-Farnese Vini in 2010.
The cyclist is known for his great sprinting abilities and helped the team with his several top performances in the past seasons.
Team Lampre-Farnese Vini recently hired Roberto Ferrari to strengthen its spring department and Petacchi noted that he will divide the team’s objective with the young new hire in the team.
"Ferrari has great qualities and I think he will give the team great satisfaction," Petacchi explained.
Team Lampre-ISD had a quite 2012 season and could not secure any better than the 14th overall position after the UCI World Tour Team’s Rankings with 435 UCI points.
Damiano Cunego (184 points), Michele Scarponi (184 points), Diego Ulissi (30 points), Alessandro Petacchi (18 points) and Przemyslaw Niemiec (15 points) made the maximum contributions.
It will be interesting to see, if Alessandro manages to find the right form early on to prove his critics wrong in the season ahead.
