Alessandro Petacchi wins the opening stage of the Bayern-Rundfahrt 2012
Alessandro Petacchi of Team Lampre-ISD opened his 2012 winning account by marking a historic win during the opening stage of the Bayern-Rundfahrt 2012.
He completed the 215.7 kilometre chase to Penzberg in a quickest time of 5 hours, 29 minutes and 1 second and occupied the top podium spot.
Allan Davis of Team Orica GreenEdge finished at the second position while Yauheni Hutarovich of Team FDJ-Big Mat and John Degenkolb of Team Argos-Shimano occupied the second, the third and the fourth position in the respective order.
Petacchi achieved a total number of 5 UCI points while Allan Davis, Yauheni Hutarovich of Team FDJ-Big Mat, John Degenkolb of Team Argos-Shimano and Alexander Porsev of Team Katusha occupied the next four positions with 4,3,2 and 1 point in the respective
order.
Alessandro is now leading the stage 1 classifications with an impressive lead of 4 seconds over Allan Davis.
David Boucher, Yauheni Hutarovich, Alexander Schmitt, Marcus Fothen, Steffen Radochla and Michael Schwarzmann achieved next six positions.
While commenting on the victory, Alessandro cited, "I'm obviously very happy, victory is finally here after having searched in Turkey and almost touching her in Norway".
"I rode very well over the Oberaudorf climb, with a 1,000 meter summit situated 100km from the finish”.
“My teammates were good at taking the lead and not letting anyone go when we entered the final two laps of the finishing circuit”.
“[Davide] Cimolai raised the pace and [Danilo] Hondo led-me out in the sprint," he concluded.
The Italian started his professional debut with Team Scrigno-Blue Storm in 1996 and spent a period of four years with the team.
He also represented Team Fassa Bortolo (2000-05), Team Milram (2006-08), Team LPR Brakes-Ballan (2008-09) and accepted an offer from Team Lampre-Farnese Vini for in the 2010 season.
Alessandro had a terrific past season and filled his bag with stage victories at the Volta a Catalunya, Tour of Turkey and the Giro d’Italia 2012.
He is now eyeing the 195.6 kilometre stage between Penzberg and Kempten scheduled on Thursday, May 24, 2012.
It will be interesting to see if Petacchi can continue his winning momentum for the coming stages of the Bayern-Rundfahrt 2012.
