Alex Ariza: Too much training can be harmful for Pacquiao – Boxing News
Manny Pacquiao’s strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza believes that the Filipino boxer is being pushed too hard. According to Alex, Pacquiao is already in good shape and he should not be forced to spar and train hard just days before his fight.
In his recent interview, when asked, Ariza said, “This is the time when we start to push too hard close to the fight and we end up sliding backwards.” According to Ariza, this is a warning for Pacquiao and he should rest now before he exhausts himself.
Manny Pacquiao is scheduled to face American unbeaten fighter Timothy Bradley on June 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. He will be defending his WBO welterweight title against Bradley.
Ariza recalls Pacquiao’s training session in Baguio City saying that the Filipino was ‘not backing off’. According to him, Pacquiao took on Russian welterweight Ruslan Provodnikov for four rounds, then Rustam Nugaev for four rounds and then two rounds with
another fighter. Ariza believes this was proof enough that the WBO champion is in good shape and that he needs to give ‘boxing a break’ for a while.
Manny Pacquiao is currently in the USA, training at Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Gym. Pacquiao’s USA trip has not been quite pleasant for him since he has been a victim of a couple of controversies. His major problem right now is the media pressure he is facing
for his anti-g*y comments he made earlier this month.
While standing against US President Barak Obama’s g*y support, the Filipino said that g*y marriages are against the word of God. The comments were followed by enormous rage, which forced the Filipino to take back his comments. Pacquiao then said that he
does not have a problem with g**s but he is only against g*y marriage since it is forbidden in the bible.
For now, the pound-for-pound king is focusing on his training sessions only. In his previous interview, he said that he is not sure what Bradley will bring to the ring but he will be 100% ready for anything. He further added that he will counter Bradley's
dirty elbow blows with his ferocious punches.
