Alex Ariza believes Manny Pacquiao will not touch gloves with Juan Manuel Marquez – Boxing news
Alex Ariza, who is the strength and conditioning trainer of the eight-division world champion and the World Boxing Organisation Welterweight World Champion (Super Champion) Manny Pacquiao, believes his fighter will not even touch gloves with Juan Manuel
Marquez, as he reckons Pacquiao is taking this fight personally.
Manny ‘Pac-Man’ Pacquiao is set to take on the current World Boxing Association Super, World Boxing Organisation and The Ring Lightweight World Champion, Marquez, in their much-anticipated trilogy fight on November 12, 2011 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las
Vegas, Nevada.
Ariza told the media he has never seen Pacquiao focus so much for a fight. He said Pacquiao knows there are still many doubts in people’s minds about their last two fights and therefore he wants to clear them all to close the chapter.
“I don't think I've seen him more focused, and I think it's because it's personal, for sure,” Ariza said. “When something is personal, it's a lot different. He knows that he has to make a statement in this one. With everyone having questions about the first
two, he has to make sure in this one that there's no doubt.”
The Fighting Pride of Philippines, Pacquiao, first met Marquez back in May 2004 and their fight ended up in a much controversial draw, with both parties claiming they won the fight.
His second meeting came in March 2008 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino and this time Pacquiao was awarded with a split decision over Marquez. The Mexican Dinamita, Marquez, since then has always claimed that he won both fights against Pacquiao. Thus,
Ariza believes Pacquiao will not even touch gloves with Marquez this time.
“We're going through sparring partners like you change underwear. I'm surprised that these guys are still coming back. I don't see Manny even touching gloves [with Marquez]. He has a disdain for the guy, and I've never known him to dislike anyone,” Ariza
added.
Marquez has waited three years desperately to avenge his defeat against Pacquiao. However, let’s see if Pacquiao, who is currently rated as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, can beat Marquez once again.
