Alex Ariza still in Manny Pacquiao’s corner – Boxing News
After being put on the ‘not to enter’ list by Top Rank’s promoter Bob Arum, Alex Ariza is now being questioned by Freddie Roach. Recent reports suggest that Freddie Roach, Manny Pacquiao’s trainer, does not want Alex Ariza in the corner after being ditched
by him in Baguio City.
Alex left the training camp being of Amir Khan and Manny Pacquiao in Baguio City just to go and train with Julio Chavez Jr. in Las Vegas. The decision, even though was approved by Pacquiao, did not settle with Freddie Roach. Roach made it a mark to inform
Pacquiao of the fact that he was not happy with Ariza’s decision. However, the Filipino pugilist said that it is not a big deal and he had permitted Ariza for doing so. Now, Freddie Roach does not want Ariza to be a part of Manny Pacquiao’s corner tonight,
June 9 when he faces Timothy Bradley.
Talking about the situation, Roach informed reporters that he asked Pacquiao if Ariza will be in the corner. He added, “Manny will call the shots. Alex is good at his job. I talk to him. I made my statements on HBO. The only problem was, I felt he made a
bad decision by leaving camp. I asked Manny, 'What's the story with the corner, what do you want? He told me, 'Let Alex work the corner.' Everyone will just do their job.”
When asked about the rift between him and Ariza, Roach replied, “There's no rift. I just said on HBO that I disagreed with his choice to leave training camp. He went to Mexico to train Chavez and then he wasn't allowed in that camp.”
He added that both of his top fighters were in Baguio City, training for their mega bouts. According to Roach, Amir Khan had to fight Lamont Peterson on May 19 for the IBF and WBA super lightweight titles and it was an important match, yet Ariza decided
to work with Chavez. According to Roach, it was a bad decision on Ariza’s end to leave a fighter at the eleventh hour when he is left with no time to get a replacement.
