Alex Ariza thinks Shane Mosley no match for Pacman
Manny Pacquiao’s conditioning coach does not see “Sugar” Shane Mosley as a sweet opponent for “Pacman.”
In a recent article at philstar.com, Alex Ariza responded to comments made by Mosley about a prospective fight with Pacquiao.
Mosley felt compelled to challenge Pacquiao after seeing him demolish Antonio Margarito on the weekend, a fighter Mosley stopped in the ninth round of a January 2009 fight.
Ariza refused to see Mosley as a viable threat to Pacquiao, saying: “Mosley? He’ll be tired after 15 minutes, so what’s the point of that fight? Manny knocks him out and probably Manny won’t even train for that fight. That guy is a quitter. He quit against
[Floyd] Mayweather in three rounds. What do you think he’s gonna do when Manny starts to let loose his hands five or 15 seconds after the bell rings?”
Mosley, 39, is coming off a totally lackluster meet with opponent Sergio Mora in September. Televised on HBO pay-pay-view, the fight was a dismal failure to most as Mora seemed intimidated and too respectful of Mosley to engage him. The bout ended in a
draw, with ringside announcers criticizing the decision and the performance of both fighters.
Despite the performance, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum recently said that he would entertain a fight between Mosley and Pacquiao, since Mosley is still a huge American draw in boxing.
Mosley seconded the comments, and told boxingscene.com that while he still fighting under the banner of Golden Boy Promotions, he spoke to them favourably about the possibility of fighting non-Golden Boy fighters, such as Pacquiao.
A legal and personal dispute has halted negotiations between Golden Boy and Top Rank, who promote Pacquiao, for months.
With Pacquiao’s dominant performance over Margarito he has secured his placed as the No.1 fighter in the world to many. In fighting Pacquiao Mosley would thus have most to gain, but it is unclear if he is still the sharp, smooth force he was once.
