Alex Bogdanovic crushes Chris Wettengel to advance into quarterfinal – Tulsa Challenger 2011
Alex Bogdanovic of Great Britain thrashed out American Chris Wettengel 6-2, 7-5 on Thursday to book his place in the last eight at the 2011 Tulsa Challengers tournament here in Oklahoma, United States.
Bogdanovic looked to attack the challenger right from the start of the match. His aggressive attitude played a crucial part in deciding the outcome of the match. The Brit used the “Hit and Volley” technique very effectively to
earn cheap points throughout the contest. Breaking the serve at regular intervals, he put his opponent under immense pressure and then executed his backhand and forehand winners superbly to establish complete control.
Wettengel put up a good fight in the second set but he was outclassed in the finer details of the game. Although the American broke the serve twice in the match, he was unable to hold on to his service games due to his weak serves.
He will be hoping to improve his game play to make a strong come back on his next Association of Tennis Professionals appearance.
Bogdanovic made a solid start to the match. The Brit displayed some high quality tennis from the baseline to control rallies and then placed his forehand and backhand winners to perfection to put himself in the driving seat.  Breaking
the serve twice in the opening set, he raced to an impassable 5-2 lead, serving for the set. Holding on to his next service game with four straight points, he took 1-0 set score lead.
Wettengel made too many unforced errors in early on in the match. His inability to hit winners from the baseline proved to be decisive as he missed some easy scoring opportunities in the process.
Bogdanovic started the second set on a similar note as well. With a double break of serve, he earned a handsome 5-2 lead. However, Wettengel raised the level of his game play at that stage as he broke back twice to shift the balance
of the match at 5-5.
Bogdanovic regrouped himself and he held on to next service games to secure a tricky 6-5 lead, requiring a break of serve to complete his straight sets victory. The Brit did exactly that by clinching four straight points on his
opponent service game to book his place in the last eight.
Ranked 350th in the world, Bogdanovic was content with the way he responded to difficult situations during the match and is expected to make it all the way to the final of the tournament.
