Alex Bogomolov Jr. breaks Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets in second round – Farmers Classic 2011
Lightning up the LA Tennis Centre was the 2nd round Men’s Single match between Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria and Alex Bogomolov Jr. of USA. The Farmers Classic 2011 had another showdown of the best players. The home crowd gave the players a standing ovation as they entered the hard court. The match ended up 6-4, 6-3 in favour of the American as he qualified for the quarter-finals.
Ranked as world No.57, Grigor Dimitrov is a young talent who arose from Bulgaria. The 20-year-old turned pro in 2008 and instantly gained fame through his exceptional playing abilities. The right hander is a hard court player with strong backhands down the line. However, this all did not work for him this time. His journey ended at the Farmers Classic at the hands or techinally by the racquet of the home player.
The Russian born American, Alex Bogomolov Jr, has been fantastic in the Farmers Classic Cup. The world No.64 is a strong player of the hard court. Proving that, the former Russian international brought misery on the young Bulgarian only to make him pack his bags.
The match was never the less an easy win for the American. Kicking off with the match Bogomolov served the opener. With two breakpoints wins and one loss, the right handed American took the 1st set without fault. Winning 67 percent of his first serve and 58 percent of his second, Bogomolov secured 29 points in total including 17 service points and 12 returners to bag the set 6-4 and led the match 1-0.
The second set saw the similar kind of beating, rather worse. Although serving no aces in the set, the world no.64 butchered the Bulgarian like a heartless serial killer. Securing 35 points in total, the 28-year-old won 19 service and 16 returners. The American saved 2 out of the 3 breakpoints and won 2 as well taking the final set 6-3 and the match in roughly 1 hour and 21 minutes.
Overall, Bogomolov secured his win with a total of 64 points just 10 ahead of the losing Bulgarian. The 20-year-old Bulgarian did not have much of a difference in service and return points but the little difference lost him the match.
Alex Bogomolov Jr. now sits in the quarter-final to play against Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil.
