Alex Bogomolov Jr defeats Philipp Petzschner at PBZ Zagreb Indoors
American tennis player, Alex Bogomolov Jr, defeated Germany’s, Philipp Petzschner, in straight sets at the PBZ Zagreb indoors just minutes ago, emerging victorious from the first second round match of the event.
The match lasted just over fifty-two minutes, and the final score line was 6-1, 6-2 in Bogomolov’s favour. This catapults the American player into the third round of the tournament, which is held in Croatia.
The PBZ Zagreb Indoors is the first European stop on the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) tour, and is scheduled to take place from 31
January to 6 February 2011. The event is part of the ATP 250 Series, and Marin Cilic will be defending his 2010 title this year. It is held in Zagreb at the Dom Sportova.
This is the first match Petzschner and Bogomolov have played against each other. The German player is currently World Number 55, while Bogomolov is ranked over a hundred spots lower than him at Number 165. Both players play right-handed tennis.
Petzschner turned pro in 2001, and is known for his bouts of immense speed on the court. He is a hard-hitting player and has been ranked as high as World Number 35 on the singles charts. He is 26 years old.
Meanwhile, Bogomolov is one year older than his opponent at 27 years. He turned pro a year after Petzschner in 2002, and has won no career titles to date. Often known as Bogie, the player broke into the ATP Top 100 for the first time in 2003. His career-high
ranking is World Number 97.
The match was an easy win for Bogomolov, who made short work of his opponent in under an hour. Seventh seed Petzschner is undoubtedly the better player, with seven aces as compared to Bogomolov’s one.
However, Bogie was in superb form during the match and has made it to the third round of the PBZ Zagreb Indoors.
