Alex Bogomolov Jr. downs Dominic Inglot to reach round two – Proton Malaysian Open 2012
Russia’s Alex Bogomolov Jr. took down the British qualifier, Dominic Inglot, in straight sets at the Proton Malaysian Open 2012 on Wednesday. He penned down a 7-5, 6-3 success against the Brit to secure a place in the second round at this ATP (Association
of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250 Series event held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The Russian challenger showed tremendous abilities to overpower Inglot in their first encounter. After recording the victory in 66 minutes, Bogomolov edged in the FedEx ATP Head 2 Head Series by 1-0 against the 26-year-old and advanced into the pre-quarters
at this indoor hard court event.
Bogomolov made a convincing entry at the Putra Indoor Stadium. He swiftly bagged his entire serves without encountering any barrier. The American resident got the breakthrough in the 11th game and clicked the opener with a 7-5 success.
Ranked 90th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Bogomolov kept momentum rolling in the proceeding set. He smoothly held his serves until he got the coveted break in the seventh game and took lead for the first time in this set.
The Russian maintained consistency in his game and after capitalising on another break chance in the last game, he sealed the set with a 6-3 win.
The 29-year-old withstood 12 aces to prevail. He manifested a better first serve share of 81 per cent as opposed to the Brit’s 59 per cent and amazingly clinched 33 out of 43 points on it. Bogomolov also sought 12 break chances and committed fewer unforced
errors which made the difference.
Next challenge for the Russian is the top seed, David Ferrer, who received a first round bye after being the top four players at this tournament. The Spanish number two is bidding for his sixth year-to-date title at this event.
The Colombian star, Alejandro Falla, also earned the glory on another court. He jolted down a 7-6(4), 4-2 retirement victory against the American challenger, Rajeev Ram, to advance at this event. Falla lost his serve once but capitalised on two out of three
break opportunities to dominate in the battle.
