Alex Borg, Adam Duffy face Daniel Wells & Michael Leslie: 2011 European Snooker Championship
The 2011 European Snooker Championship, organised by the European Billiard and Snooker Association (EBSA), has entered into its final stages. As expected, Alex Borg and Adam Duffy have made it to
the Last 16 of the event easily and they will now face Daniel Wells and Michael Leslie respectively.
Malta’s Alex Borg played tremendously in the group stage, that was based on round-robin format of play. He faced seven group members and, with an outstanding performance, nudged all of them down to
surge into the Last 32 round after topping Group B.
The 42-year-old Borg faced the home favourite, Ivailo Pekov of Bulgaria, in the Last 32 stage. He whitewashed the Bulgarian 4-0 after a tremendous run during the match and jumped into Last 16 against
the Welsh National Champion, Daniel Wells.
The 22-year-old Welshman, Wells is another one of the top contenders to clinch the European title. However, he has already qualified for the main tour of 2011-12 Snooker Season. Wells was second in
his group with six victories after the Englishman Martin O’Donnell, who topped Group H with seven wins.
England’s Adam Duffy was pretty consistent during the tournament and made an impressive impact at the Dedeman Hotel in Sofia as he surged into the Last 32 round, taking six wins in group stage. The
19-year-old youngster finished second in Group C after the Irishman, Vincent Muldoon, who grabbed seven victories.
The Eckington potter, Duffy met the 44-year-old Simon Zammit from Malt in the Last 32 stage. Zammit appeared to be a strong resistance during the match but the young Duffy managed to pull him two
frames down at 4-2 in the end to make his entrance sure in the next round.
Duffy is going to face the teenage Scotsman, Michael Leslie, in the Last 16 round. The 18-year-old Leslie is also one of the favourites to grab the European title and made his move to the professional
tour of the news snooker season. The Bonnyrigg potter, Leslie will be a tough competitor for the Englishman and the match-up will be a test of his snooker skills.
The matches of Last 16 will start on Wednesday, June 15 at the Dedeman Hotel in Sofia, Bulgaria.
