Alex Borg, Rob M James, Stephen Craigie and Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon won their first round matches of the 2011 World Snooker Q School Event 3 on day one.
The final event of this season’s World Snooker Q School is being held at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
Sam Harvey 3-4 Alex Borg
The best performance of the session came in the first match, which was between the Malta professional, Alex Borg and the Englishman, Sam Harvey.
It was a fully stretched battle, which ended dramatically in the deciding frame on the final black ball. Both players showcased their magnificent break-building skills. However, in the end it was Borg who held his nerves to secure a place in the next round.
The dominant breaks during the match were 60, 40, 73 and 49.
Rob M James 4-1 Chen Zhe
Second match of the session saw the Englishman Rob M James comfortably moving into the next round with an impressive 4-1 victory over the Chinese, Chen Zhe. Though Zhe knocked in breaks of 45 and 63, he could only manage in clinching one frame. James on
the other hand was able to win the match with just one dominant break of 43, which he racked up in the last frame.
Stephen Craigie 4-0 Ben Harrison
It was completely a one man show in the third match of the session, as Stephen Craigie whitewashed his compatriot Ben Harrison by a 4-0 frame score.
Craigie did not give Harrison much chance and killed the match with classy breaks of 88, 54 and 54.
Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon 4-1 Shaun Wilkes
It was a strong performance from the Thailand professional, Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon, as he came far superior to the Englishman Shaun Wilkes in all the departments to register a 4-1 win.
He also produced carving breaks of 43 and 64 in the first and the fifth frames respectively.
Michael Wasley and Lee Walker in the meanwhile were the lucky ones to receive walkovers.
