Alex Davies beats Kurt Maflin in a final frame thriller – 2011 World Snooker Q School
Alex Davies has defeated the dangerous Kurt Maflin by a frame score of 4-3 in the Round 1 best-of-seven frames match of the Event 2 of the 2011 World Snooker Q School.
This event is being held at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
Kurt Maflin, who outplayed the likes of Simon Bedford, Jack Lisowski, Dave Harold and Mark King in the qualifying rounds of this year’s China Open before losing out to Ding Junhui in the last 32, has fallen down in the Event 2. However it was an accomplishing
performance from Davies, as he was down 1-3 before he clawed back to register a 4-3 win in the end.
The overall score line between the players was, 71-33; 16-54; 8-72 (53); 35-66; 64-58; 58-55; 59-38.
In the opening frame, both players were seen toiling their rhythm but in the end it was Davies who managed in winning the first frame to take a 1-0 lead. Maflin however responded in the second and levelled the score by 1-1 without doing anything outstanding.
First chance in the third fell for Davies but he blew the opportunity after rolling in eight points and when the chance presented itself, Maflin slotted a magnificent break of 53 to go in front at 1-2. Maflin also pocketed the fourth frame to further extend
his lead by 1-3.
It looked as if the match is through and Maflin would move into the next round but everyone was left flabbergasted when Davies bounced back into the game, with all of his zeal, energy and strength and clinched all of the following three frames to seal a
shocking victory.
Davies did not play his best snooker but his flawless safety skills were enough to take him into the next round.
The other winners who cruised into round three in the afternoon session of the Event 2 were Mitchell Travis, Stephen Rowlings, Ben Judge, Stephen Groves and Rob M James.
