Alex Dowsett signs a one-year deal with Team Movistar
Alex Dowsett has succeeded in securing his future for the season ahead after signing a one-year deal with Team Movistar.
The British time trial champion was delighted to seal the deal with the Spanish squad and is looking ahead at a promising season.
“This isn’t a decision I have taken lightly, Sky is a fantastic team and I was flattered that they wanted me to stay but I have a new opportunity and a new chapter of my career,” Dowsett said in a press release from Team Sky.
“I would like to thank everybody at Team Sky who have supported me over the last couple of years. I now look forward to an exciting 2013 with ‘Movistar’”.
He rode for the Amateur side, Team 100% Me earlier on his career and soon joined the professional side, Team Trek-Livestrong in 2010.
Alex joined the British side, Team Sky in 2011 and stayed with the team by the end of 2012 season.
He helped the team with several top performances in the two seasons and is positive to continue his winning momentum with the new side.
Some of his memorable victories in the past two seasons include a first place finish at the National Time Trial Championships in both the past seasons.
He finished second overall at the Tour du Poitou-Charentes 2011, third at the Chrono des Nations, fifth overall at the Danmark Rundt and occupied the sixth overall position at the Ster ZLM Toer 2011.
The 24-year-old continued his tremendous form in the 2012 season and won at the National Time Trial Championships 2012 for the second consecutive time.
He finished first at the Vita Cycles Ten Minutes of h**l Time Trial Mersey Tunnel Time Trial, second at the National Road Race Championships and eighth at the UCI World Time Trial Championships to wrap up a perfect two-year stay with the British team.
Other cyclists confirmed for Team Movistar in 2013 season include, Eros Capecchi, Sylwester Szmyd and Arkaitz Duran.
Whereas, Vasili Kiryienka, Ignatas Konovalovas and David Lopez will leave the Belgian team by the end of 2012 season.
