Alex Ferguson claims Champions League tie against Chelsea is not about revenge
Manchester United Manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, has stated that their UEFA Champions League tie against fellow Barclays Premier League team, Chelsea, is not about revenge.
The Red Devils are up against the Blues in a two legged quarter-final in the ongoing Champions League 2010-11 season.
Earlier, Chelsea goalkeeper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Petr-Cech-c29837, stated that his side are looking to avenge their defeat at the hands of Red Devils in the UEFA Champions League final back in 2008 when United won the match and the competition on penalties.
Ferguson responded that it is the hunger to win the Champions League that drives the players not the emotion of revenge.
He said, "I don't believe players think about revenge, Something that happened three years ago goes out of your mind quite quickly. The main ambition for any team is to win the cup. The motivation is greater to the match than to think about what happened
in the past”.
The Scotsman further stated that there is one major difference between the current Champions League tie against Chelsea and the Moscow final back in 2008 i.e. talented playmaker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cristiano-Ronaldo-c9629 is not among the United ranks, other than that, seven of United’s
players retain their places.
Prior to the match against Chelsea, United have received a major boost as injured defenders Rafael da Silva, and, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rio-Ferdinand-c31173 are declared fit.
Furthermore, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nemanja-Vidic-c27550, is a good problem to have for the United boss.
The Red Devils are hoping to land three trophies at Old Trafford at the end of the season. Other then the Champions League, United are on the verge of claiming the Premier League title and face derby rivals, Manchester City, in the FA Cup semi-final.
United are in great form going into the crunch match against Chelsea. In the last round of fixtures in the Premier League, United collected maximum points in their 4-2 victory over West Ham, whereas http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 were held to a draw against Stoke City.
Chelsea host the Red Devils for the first leg of the quarter-final on April 6, 2011.
