Alex Ferguson demands better performances from Rooney and Berbatov
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has stated that his team needs better performances, in away matches, from strikers http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dimitar-Berbatov-c11254. Ferguson praised the two strikers labelling them as one of the best in the world, but insisted
that their contribution outside of Old Trafford this season has been below par.
The Red Devils manager is hoping that Rooney’s wonder strike in the derby against Manchester City will help the Englishman once again reach his best.
Ferguson said, “I hope that is Wayne back to his best. But I have to say, what I need to get out of Wayne and Berba are those performances away from home. They have not been as good for us away and it's a quandary for us because they should be dictating
games away from home. If they do, it will make a h**l of a difference."
United have secured only three wins in 12 away games this season. Rooney and Berbatov will also be aware of their under par show away from home as it is clearly reflected in their goal scoring stats. Berbatov has scored freely at Old Trafford this season
but has only been able to bag four goals in away games this season.
Rooney, who has had a horrendous season both on and off the pitch, has so far managed only one away goal for his side. However, the English star has been impressive after facing off-field controversies but has not been able to consistently find the back
of the net. Many believe Rooney’s brilliant overhead kick, which resulted in the winning goal, against rivals City will revive the goal-scoring confidence he seemed to be lacking.
Rooney has dedicated the goal to the United fans saying, “It was a special feeling for the United fans because they deserved that from me. I've not had the best of seasons and I know how big this game is for Manchester, so I hope they enjoyed that. It was
a great feeling for me to score a goal like that, with the reaction from the fans.”
The club’s fans will be delighted to see their striker regain full form as the Champions League is set to resume after the scheduled break. United cruised past the group stages of the tournament and will now face French side Marseille in the first knockout
stage. The first leg of the tie will be played at Stade Vélodrome, Marseille’s home ground.
United’s 2-1 win over City has helped the Red Devils maintain their stranglehold at the top of the Premier League table. They are now eight points clear of third placed City and four points clear of Arsenal. United’s next fixture in the League is against
Wigan Athletic on Saturday 26 February.
