Alex Ferguson looking to bring in replacement for outgoing Patrice Evra
The reaction of Sir Alex Ferguson, upon Patrice Evra’s future at Manchester United envisioned improbability, which resulted in targeting Benfica’s Portuguese left back Fabio Coentrao.
It was evident and arrangements were clearly made which indicated that Coentrao was geared to move to Stamford Bridge in the summer, but it came to a halt over the insecurity of Chelsea, where Jose Mourinho, the previous employer
was heard to attract Ashley Cole to Real Madrid.
Cole stood consistent on his decision; however, the same cannot be said about Coentrao. Signs say he may be routing back to the Barclays Premier League with Evra now in Mourinho’s places of interest for the problem left-back position
at the Bernabeu.
So clear is the haste and instability at United that the team's veteran defender Patrice Evra will find it close to impossible to resist a potential move to Real Madrid if the occasion arrives.
Coentrao’s name stands out on the United manager’s shortlist following establishing himself as Portugal’s first-choice left back at just 22, after a remarkable performance at the World Cup finals in South Africa.
Coentrao, who can also operate as a winger, was an ever-present and one of the few Portugal players to impress as they marched out to Spain in the last 16.
Rumours have been heard of declaration in Portugal last night that contact had already been made between the clubs. However, a prominent £20 million asking price for a player whose contract has nearly six years to run may prove
a faltering block.
Despite Coentrao not being a hundred percent confirmed yet, what it has gone on to prove is the fact that Evra's future is now a major doubt at the club. This news would more than likely come as a shock to most United fans; however,
it appears as though the Wayne Rooney effect has taken its toll on Evra and crew, only this time around it seems like Evra is going to stick to his morals and not change his mind even if he is offered a handsome new contract.
