Alex Ferguson promised youngsters playing time at Manchester United – Chris Smalling
Manchester United defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson has promised the younger players at the team playing time, this coming season. The defender has stated that the manager is going to try and test out the younger
players at the team, this coming season, in order to see just who is good enough to make the cut.
The last time the manager decided to follow such an approach, was way back when he helped develop the Golden Generation. The Golden Generation included the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Beckham-c10432 and as we all know, those three have gone on to
become legends in the world of football. The manager is hoping to repeat the same level of success this time around and from the way things are shaping up, he might just be able to get what he is striving for.
The manager tested this theory this past Sunday, as he fielded a rather young team against Manchester City in the community shield game. The average age of the team that took to the field was twenty three years and it boasted the likes of Smalling, United
midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-Welbeck-c10233, all playing for United.
Despite having such a young squad, United went on to beat City, as they cruised past them in the second half, as they beat their arch rivals by a score line of three goals to two.
Smalling, when talking about what the coming season holds in store for the younger players at the club is quoted to have said: "The manager said the young players will get a chance this season.”
"At half-time in a big game like this you could see the young players step up. Hopefully that can carry on all season.”
The player then admitted that with a number of the youngsters spending time away on loan spells, they are now ready to make the leap forward and claim their spot in the United squad.
Smalling then went on to add: "Quite a few people feel like they have got a fresh start. They have been out on loan and are making a big step.”
The defender then wended by stating that the pre season is a fine example of just how good the youngsters are and to the fact that they can easily incorporate themselves in to the United squad.
"The manager has given them a chance in pre-season. You can see these players are good enough and hopefully they will get more chances."
Ferguson seems to be on track with his plans for the coming years. The manager has identified the youth as the future of the team and is doing his best to develop them, in hopes to make United unstopable for as long as possible
