United went into their second leg with Ajax, possessing a two goals to nil lead. With the game being played at Old Trafford, just about everyone assumed that the Red Devils would go on an pick up an easy win in the game.
With Javier Hernandez scoring an early goal in the game, the tie saw United lead by three goals to nil. However, goal from Aras Ozbiliz, went on to even things out in t he game, while cutting down United’s lead in the tie to 3-1.

"I've got to accept that I'm responsible for picking the team and tonight there were just too many young players in the back four positions.”
"They were all 19-21 years of age, so that was a big problem in terms of experience in the back four positions. It was a big risk we took.”
Ferguson then went on to hail Ajax and the spirit that they showed in the game, since no one thought the Dutch team would be able to do what they did.
With the United boss now being made aware of the risks of the Europa League, he is more than likely to name a much more experienced squad from here on.
